　　首先，我們照常來看看究竟什么是Humanities呢，根據(jù)牛津詞典的英文注解，Humanities是the subjects of study that are concerned with the way people think and behave, for example literature, language, history and philosophy，即和人類思考及行為表現(xiàn)有關(guān)的學(xué)科，其中囊括了文學(xué)、語言、歷史和哲學(xué)等等，甚至音樂、宗教也包括在這里面。

　　而托福人文科學(xué)類的文章，通常是以歐洲或者北美為社會(huì)背景，例如15-16世紀(jì)以意大利佛羅倫薩為中心的文藝復(fù)興時(shí)期帶來的文學(xué)、藝術(shù)上的發(fā)展，17世紀(jì)盛行的巴洛克藝術(shù)風(fēng)格，影響到18世紀(jì)的印象主義的繪畫和文學(xué)作品，這些內(nèi)容對(duì)于大部分的國(guó)內(nèi)考生而言是背景知識(shí)上的空缺，所以在這部分的單詞積累中，遇到一些特殊的專有名詞，不僅要只關(guān)心中文翻譯，也可以適當(dāng)拓展這些名詞所對(duì)應(yīng)的特點(diǎn)。
